- [G.F. MUZIO], Principi di aritmetica e commercio. Opera divisa in due tomi utilissima a negozianti. Tomo I [ - Tomo II. Parte II.] (Genova, Stamperia Gesiniana, 1790) Two volumes bound in three. 397, (1) pp.; 387, (1) pp.; 252 pp.
- The author, who taught at Toirano, Chiavari, Carcare and Genova, starts with a general treatise on the fundamentals of arithmetics, on calculations with regard to interest and discounts, money exchange and related subjects. A good part of the work is a rich geographical and economic description of the principal marketplaces in both Italy and foreign countries with notes on the dealers, manufacture, money, weights, sizes, and usages and customes in these trading centres. The work furthermore contains a treatise on commissions and provisions and comparative tables. Extensive attention is also paid to the European trade establishments in Africa, Asia and America, thereby showing the continued increasing importance of commerce and trade and the financial system and devices supporting it, a system which had such a profound influence on the economy of Europe. Finally, attention is paid to the various problems resulting from lack of knowledge of how disputes are settled, and about mediation in all these diverse trading and market places. The book is a stunning vade-mecum on trade, commerce, money-lending and money exchange worldwide and rich in information.

- Jacques DU PUY DE LA SERRA, Trattato delle lettere di cambio secondo l’uso delle più celebri Piazze d’Europa [...] Tradotta dalla lingua Francese nell’ Italiano dal Sig. Pietro d’Albizzo Martellini [...] (Venice, Gulielmo Zerletti, 1761) pp. xvi, 208, 72.
- Du Puy’s L’Art des Lettres de Change was first published in Paris in 1690 and remained the primary reference work in France for laws relating to bills of exchange throughout the eighteenth century. It also found favour abroad: there were numerous Italian editions – 1718, 1740, 1750, this of 1761, 1772 (Kress Italian 410) and 1785. This printing ends with the translator’s own addition of the section entitled 'Metodo di tutti li cambj', which appeared from the second edition of 1740 onwards.

- An 80-page world-wide statistical overview offers a wealth of quantitative information on natural resources, population, currencies, State bond rates, trade, banks' history and capital across Continental Europe, Britain, Russia and America, the most up-to-date figures being directly quoted from contemporary periodicals. While Boston, St. Petersburg, London, Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, Stockholm, Rome and Vienna provide the setting to most of André's statistical 'photographs', some reference is also made to South American, Asian and African Countries, particularly in relation to climate, diseases and mortality rates. The rest of the volume offers an in-depth quantitative analysis of the Austrian Empire: resources, industries, tax system, debt, public spending for court and army, the Austrian National Bank, diachronically exploring its development since the beginning of the eighteenth century.

- Treatise on the law regulating bills of exchange and promissory notes in Austria, composed by the jurist P.C. Meyer to furnish the Empire with a reference that would equal in purpose Du Puy's French, Phoonsen's Dutch, Della Torre's Genoese and Azpilcueta's Spanish manuals (see the Vorbericht, p. [5-6]). Described in the introduction as a branch of the law that, while traditionally treated generically in German and Austrian literature as part of the cameral sciences, should now be defined in modern terms as specific and separate, exchange law is examined in all aspects, from the forms and content of bills and contracts to the juridical features and obligations pertaining to the contracting parts. A 50-page addendum provides, as well as a glossary and index, notes on the implementation of contemporary pieces of legislation, particularly what Meyer describes as the most noteworthy innovations introduced 'very recently' (p. 129) by the 1763 Wechsel Ordnung. This reference, as well as a hypothetical date suggested by the record of the Dresden Library online catalogue (the only mention of a paper copy which we were able to trace worldwide), supports our 1764 dating of this publication.
